A former member of the Truro Bearcats sentenced to four months in jail for leaving the scene of an accident at UPEI in 2011 is back before the courts in P.E.I.
Zachary Evans-Renaud of St. Peters has been charged by police in Charlottetown with impaired driving.
Mitchell MacLeod, Evans-Renaud’s defence counsel, appeared on his behalf in provincial court Wednesday and entered a plea of not guilty to a charge of having care and control of a motor vehicle while impaired. Evans-Renaud was not in court. He will be back later this month.
This latest offence is alleged to have taken place July 20 in Charlottetown.
Evans-Renaud is also the subject of a lawsuit filed against him by the young man he struck with his vehicle in 2011.

The 22-year-old hockey player appealed the four-month jail sentence imposed in that case but the P.E.I. Court of Appeal denied his appeal and upheld that sentence.
A newspaper article published this week indicated Evans-Renaud was preparing for his first professional camp in California.
