Premier Wade MacLauchlan says the Liberal Party’s Population Strategy is focused on three major themes: “Repatriate, Recruit and Retain”.

He said the strategy builds on recent success that P.E.I. has had as a leader in Atlantic Canada in population growth, labour force growth and labour force education attainment.

On Thursday, MacLauchlan unveiled the Liberal strategy to grow the P.E.I. population

and encourage Islanders to return home.

The plans include specific strategies to grow primary industries, to continue to expand knowledge-based sectors, to focus on trade, export and prospecting and to build a greater culture of entrepreneurship in the province.

Population growth is critical in growing P.E.I’s economy, the premier said.

“We will launch a Bring it Home campaign to share with Islanders the opportunities that exist here and encourage them to come back home.”

MacLauchlan says their plan will focus on worker re-training, new internship programs and on-the-job training opportunities.

A Liberal government will introduce a new Islander Ambassador Program to empower communities and other organizations to develop initiatives, focused on their own unique strengths, to connect with Islanders living away.
