MONCTON, N.B. – A home worth nearly half a million dollars has been given over to government after a drug dealer with P.E.I. connections was sentenced Thursday.

Guy Joseph Cormier, 47, from Grand-Barachois, N.B., was in Moncton provincial court where he got seven years in federal prision for various drug-related charges.

"Cormier also forfeited his residence in Grand-Barachois to the Crown," said a statement issued Thursday by the RCMP.

"The home is valued at approximately $468,000.

"He is also prohibited from possessing firearms for life."

The drug charges arose from Operation Lunge, a joint investigation by the RCMP in Prince Edward Island and New Brunswick.

It began in September 2013 with "the goal of disrupting illegal drug activity and distribution, as well as to identify assets obtained through crime," said the statement.

It became a lengthy investigation, said the RCMP.

"On Feb. 12, 2015, Cormier was arrested and his home in Grand-Barachois was seized, (declared) as an asset obtained through the proceeds of crime."

On March 18 of this year, Cormier pleaded guilty to five counts involving hydromorphone, from trafficking to possession for  trafficking, four counts of trafficking and possessing cocaine, and one count of possessing methamphetamine.

“The combined efforts of police in both New Brunswick and P.E.I. throughout Operation Lunge has allowed us to disrupt the trafficking of illegal drugs between our provinces and to seize significant assets and wealth that were obtained as a result of criminal activity,” says Sgt. Tim Feeney. in charge of Federal crimes for the RCMP, based in Moncton.
