The gym teacher at Georgetown Elementary School was recently recognized with the school’s Above and Beyond Award.
According to a release put out by the home and school association, Praught has a passion for physical fitness, which is communicated through her involvement in activities outside the school.
She is currently pursuing her masters in education and has an extensive coaching background that includes assistant coach of the 2017 Canada Games women’s softball team.
Kerri O’Brien, mother of three students at the school, said she is thrilled with Praught’s commitment and dedication to her children and their school.
“The difference in education is second to none,’’ O’Brien said. “What a great teacher. This is the kind of initiative that makes our small school special.’’
Her recent programming initiatives at the school include using facilities in close proximity to the school to enrich her student’s experiences. The students have been involved in hockey at the Three Rivers Sportsplex and dance at Kings Playhouse. The list of their programming is long and varied. It includes sledge hockey, snow-shoeing, indoor curling, hip-hop dancing and more.
Praught said she has a dream job.
“I had a lot of amazing teachers and coaches that had a positive influence on me and left a lasting impression,’’ Praught said. “Something they all had in common was they were positive role models and they cared. I strive to follow their lead in hopes that I, too, can have a positive impact on the lives of others.’’
