Prince Edward Island residents will be paying more to fuel their cars and heat their homes as they turn the calendar to March, The Guardian has learned.

Gas prices will be increasing by 2.6 cents per litre effective 12:01 a.m. on Saturday, March 1. That will push pump prices to 138.5 to 139.7 cents per litre.

By compassion, the average gas price in Canada, according to Gasbuddy.com, is 131.2 cents per litre and rising.

Diesel prices will increase by 2.5 cents per litre.

The news isn’t much better for home heating oil.

Furnace and stove oil prices will increase by 2.0 cents per litre.

The Island Regulatory and Appeals Commission, which regulates gas prices in the province, will make the new prices official on Saturday.

The next scheduled price adjustment is on March 15.
