No one was injured in a fire that damaged a home on the corner of the Selkirk and Iona roads in Iona early this afternoon.
The home used to be the location of the old O’Shea’s country store.
The Belfast Fire Department responded to the call just after noon.
RCMP Const. Anthony MacDonald said the fire started in the front of the house, noting that a motorist saw smoke coming out of the front door and stopped.
No one was home at the time.
MacDonald said it’s too early to say if the house is a complete loss. Much of the structure also sustained smoke and water damage.
MacDonald praised the efforts of the Belfast Fire Department, especially considering the weather conditions at the time.
“They got it out pretty quick. With that wind it could have been a lot worse. Basically, the only thing that is unsalvageable is the front part of the house.’’
