CARDIGAN, P.E.I. – A family of five escaped unhurt from a house fire in eastern P.E.I. Wednesday night.

The blaze occurred around 11 p.m. at 2736 Primrose Rd., about 15 kilometres east of Cardigan.

The fire gutted the home, and the Canadian Red Cross is assisting the displaced family – which includes a couple and three children between the ages of seven and 10 - with lodging, purchases of clothing and food and blankets.
