A 57-year-old P.E.I. woman who was so intoxicated she was unable to provide a breath sample to police when she was arrested was sentenced to four days in jail.
Margaret Elizabeth Gregan appeared before Chief Judge Nancy Orr in provincial court in Charlottetown on May 17.
The court heard on April 21 at around 6:30 p.m., police received a complaint of a possible impaired driver in the driver seat of a parked car in Charlottetown.
When police arrived, they encountered Gregan in the driver’s seat displaying “extreme” signs of intoxication. She was unable to speak or walk without assistance.
She was taken into custody and was unable to provide breath samples because of her level of intoxication.
She was lodged overnight at the provincial correctional centre and released the following morning.
She had no prior criminal record.
In addition to incarceration, she must pay a $1,200 fine and $360 to the victims of crime fund.
She is also prohibited from driving for one year.
