A P.E.I. woman who was drunk while driving herself to the hospital was fined $1,000 and given one year of probation Thursday.
Alison J. Douglas, 52, appeared before Judge John Douglas in provincial court in Charlottetown where she pleaded guilty to failing the breathalyzer.
The court heard that on Dec. 6 Charlottetown police responded to a call about an intoxicated woman in a vehicle.
The accused later provided breathalyzer samples that were more than twice the legal limit.
She had a dated record with two drunk driving-related convictions.
Defence lawyer Thane MacEachern said his client had underlying mental health and addiction issues and was driving herself to the hospital when she stopped to talk to a friend.
Along with the fine, the accused must pay a $300 victim surcharge and is banned from driving for one year.
