A Charlottetown man who smashed into a parked car when he missed a turn in the road while driving drunk has been sentenced to 21 days in jail.

David Chad Moore, 35, appeared before Chief Judge Nancy Orr in provincial court in Charlottetown where he pleaded guilty to failing the breathalyzer and possessing a stolen licence plate.

The court heard that on July 13 around 10:40 p.m. Moore was driving fast on Royalty Road in Charlottetown when he missed a turn and almost hit a utility pole.

Moore’s car ended up in a driveway where it ripped the bumper off a parked vehicle.

When that vehicle’s owner went outside Moore was gone.

The police later found Moore and he admitted to stealing the licence plate that was on his car.

Moore provided breathalyzer samples that were almost twice the legal limit.

Along with the jail time, which Moore will serve on weekends, he must also pay a $1,000 fine, $400 in victim surcharges and $250 in restitution.

Moore is banned from driving for one year.
