Wellington Gay, who spent close to 40 years working in the cable television industry with Island Cablevision and Eastlink, has died.

Funeral services will be held Saturday for well-known Stratford resident Wellington Gay who died Wednesday after a short illness at the age of 65.

Gay spent close to 40 years working in the cable television industry with Island Cablevision and Eastlink.

At the time of his death he was still working with Eastlink as a headend technician.

While working in that industry he volunteered much of his time to charity, participating regularly in fundraising telethons for Camp Gencheff, Easter Seals and the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

Gay was active in his community serving as a volunteer committee member for the town of Stratford's infrastructure committee.

He served before that as a member at large of   the sewer and water utility board.

Stratford Mayor David Dunphy said Gay was a valued member of the community who frequently provided the town with insights into issues of a technical nature.

Dunphy said Gay had been a community volunteer pretty much since the amalgamation of the town.

He was also a volunteer with the Cross Roads Rural Community Fire Company.

Gay had a keen interest in sports, particularly in curling and sailing.

He was a particularly avid and accomplished sailor and frequently participated in local yacht races.

Gay's boat, Midnite, was moored at the Charlottetown Yacht Club, which he served for a time as commodore.

He is survived by his wife Nancy MacDonald and sons Paul and Marty and by grandson Liam.

He is also survived by his father Gordon, also known as 'bus', sister Norma and   niece Laura.

He was predeceased by his mother Nina and his brother Gordon.

Remains are resting at the Hillsboro Funeral Home in Stratford, with visitation today (Friday) from 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 P.M.

Funeral service will be held Saturday in the funeral home chapel at 10:30.
