College of Piping theatre supporter offers first in Canada whiskey tasting opportunity

SUMMERSIDE, P.E.I. - Longtime College of Piping supporter and inventor Doug Hall is bringing his double gold medal-winning whiskey from Cincinnati, Ohio, to Summerside for Canadians to try for the first time.

“This tasting in Summerside, at the College of Piping, brings together the Celtic magic of whiskey, bagpipes, drums, dance, songs and stories. It doesn’t get any more Scottish than that,” said Hall.

Hall, founder and chairman of the Eureka! Ranch and Brain Brew Custom Whiskey, has invented an all-natural time compression method that turns young alcohol spirits into luxury drink quickly. It accomplishes this by replicating seasons of barrel aging using a patent pending pressure and temperature timed machine.

He’s partnered with the Edrington Distillers of Scotland (producers of The Macallan, Highland Park, Cutty Sark, Snow Leopard, The Famous Grouse and Brugal), to bring his Brain Brew Whiskies to market.

This summer, Hall is in the process of talking to distillers and brewers across the province to bring his accelerated aging system to P.E.I. next year.

“A significant percentage of profits from each bottle sold from the proposed P.E.I. partnership will go to support the College of Piping,” Hall said.

Over the past year the products have won top awards, including a unanimous choice double gold at the San Francisco World Spirits Championship and a 95 Rating in the Ultimate Spirits Challenge.

During the intermission of the College of Piping’s “Great Scot!” show from Aug. 13 to 17, Hall will be pouring samples of The Macallan Scotch Whisky, Noble Oak Bourbon and Relativity Whiskey to those of legal age. The tastings are in partnership with the P.E.I. Liquor Control Commission.

“Macallan is considered the world’s most precise whisky. Noble Oak is a double oak bourbon - finished with Sherry Oak Staves - that are used in the world’s top whiskies,” he explained.

Relativity, his newest spirit creation, is a reinvention of whiskey - a smoother, easier drinking whiskey that’s been called the “New American Whiskey,” Hall added.

“This is a very special treat . . . demand is 10 times greater than we expected.”

Hall chose the “Great Scot!” production to showcase his products because whiskey and Scotland go hand-in-hand, and the new facility is a spectacle.

“The new centre is amazing - it is a professional theatrical experience of world class quality. And the new theater’s computer designed acoustics elevate the sound from the pipes and drums to an acoustic experience that rivals even Symphony Hall in Boston.”

Hall has been a summer resident of P.E.I. for 51 years. As a thank-you to the Island, he and his wife, Debbie, sponsor a pipe band scholarship program at the College of Piping that enables all Island youth aged eight to 18 to take bagpiping or drumming in group lessons.

To date, the couple has provided support for over 50,000 lessons.
