City of Charlottetown to replace lights in Simmons Sports Centre

Those lights are are a dated model and at the lower end of the energy efficiency spectrum.

On a daily basis, the parks and recreation committee was told, lights are failing to turn on, resulting in dark spots on the ice surface and hence, negative feedback from user groups.

It is expected that with the changeover to LED lighting fixtures, the payback could come within two to less than three years.

CAO Peter Kelly has asked the parks department to get in touch with the city’s energy efficiency staff.

The decision was made to proceed with the changeover.

There is money in the 2016 budget to cover expenses.
