Charlottetown Deputy Mayor Mike Duffy has announced his intention to seek re-election in Ward 3 (Brighton).

Duffy said during his 12 years on council he has gained an understanding of the complexities of city government, including its capacities and limitations but also its potential.

“The primary role of a citizen’s representative is to be an advocate for the people of the ward and of the city as a whole,’’ Duffy said. “In the next four years, I will continue my work to strengthen our city’s foundation by bringing forth new initiatives and advancing existing ones to engage our communities and residents.’’

These initiatives include helping the province in providing social housing and improving the city’s cosmetic pesticide bylaw. Duffy also strives to continue to implement new environmentally-friendly and cost-saving technological improvements to city buildings, vehicles and the T3 Transit system.

Duffy’s press release goes on to say that he will work to enhance the water supply with state-of-the-art equipment, support a dedicated buffered cycling corridor from Joe Ghiz Park to Victoria Park and deliver services and install structures and devices that will enhance the safety of city streets and sidewalks.

In addition to his role as deputy mayor, Duffy also serves as chairman of the environment and sustainability committee as well as the Water and Sewer Utility committee. He is also the vice-chairman of the finance committee and the human resources committee.

“I have the ability to bring people together to discuss issues, to consider options and to negotiate resolutions to achieve common goals,’’ Duffy said. “I am ready for a positive campaign, meeting residents, hearing comments and taking on challenges.’’

Duffy is a life-long resident of Ward 3. Duffy and his wife, Phyllis (Murphy) have two daughters, Alana, and Lori Anne, a son-in-law, Philip Shea, and a granddaughter, Lexi.

Duffy can be reached at [email protected] or at 902-628-9501.
