Charlottetown police warn of fraudulent Kijiji transactions

Charlottetown police are giving online shoppers tips to protect themselves.
Charlottetown Police Services are warning the public about fraudulent transactions on the popular online classified site Kijiji.

CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. – Islanders are being warned about making purchases from the popular online classified site Kijiji after a complaint of fraudulent activity.

Charlottetown Police Services recently investigated a complaint involving a victim who sent an email money transfer to a seller from the site prior to receiving the purchased item.

Once the money was transferred, however, the victim lost all contact with the seller and was did not receive the item.

Police recommend online shoppers to never send money before receiving an item, to conduct transactions in a public place and bring someone else with them when picking up the item.

The public is also encouraged to take advantage of the Charlottetown police’s "Safe Exchange Zone," located in the police department parking lot on 10 Kirkwood Dr. in front of the main entrance doors
