The City of Charlottetown mayor and council are invitiing residents and visitors to the mayor’s annual barbeque to kick off Old Home Week.
The event will take place on the corner of Fitzroy Street and Great George Street, beside the Alantic Technology Centre, on Friday, Aug. 14 from 11:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m.
The mayor and councillors will be joined by city staff other guests.
The event will include free food, entertainment and a small petting zoo for children.
During the event, Fitzroy Street will be closed to motorists from Great George Street, formerly University Avenue, to the Fitzroy parkade.
Motorists will still be able to access the parkade.
The annual barbecue is designed to help launch and show support for Old Home Week, which has a rich history in the city.
Islanders and visitors have been enjoying the midway, livestock and agricultural shows and competitions since 1888.
Old Home Week includes entertainment for the whole family and runs until Aug. 22.

This year, donations will be accepted during the event to support the Canadian Red Cross and the efforts to help victims of the Prince Street apartment fire that took place on Sunday, Aug. 9.
