CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. - A 35-year-old man known for selling flowers outside Charlottetown businesses was given a suspended sentence recently for stealing roses from a grocery store.
Jimmy Bouillon-Savard appeared before Judge John Douglas in provincial court in Charlottetown where he pleaded guilty to the theft.
Crown attorney Lisa Goulden told the court Bouillon-Savard went to a Superstore in Charlottetown on April 19, took four bouquets of roses and left without paying.
A security guard stopped him in the parking lot where Bouillon-Savard said he was going to his car to get his wallet.
Bouillon-Savard then dropped the flowers and left.
Goulden said the police were familiar with Bouillon-Savard as someone that sells roses outside businesses.
“This was an offence for personal gain,” Goulden said.
Bouillon-Savard told the court he has had a tough few years and he apologized for taking up the court’s time.
“I’m not here to give you excuses,” he said.
With the suspended sentence, Bouillon-Savard will be on probation for four months and must pay a $100 victim surcharge.
