The sustainability department plans to add three planters at Desbrisay Community Garden.
This location has been selected because there is an active community garden organization that can help with maintenance and promotion of the planters.
The parks and recreation department has made a request of the sustainability department to see if the costs for the lumber could be covered through the sustainability budget.
Parks and recreation will build the planters over the winter and provide the soil and plant material and ensure they are maintained throughout the summer.
The request is $1,050, or $350 for each planter, for the materials to build the planters.
The sustainability department is also asking for a signage budget for the three locations to communicate the purpose of the planters to the public and promote the involvement of both departments.
