Diversified Metal Engineering (DME) made the cumulative donation over several years through staff payroll deductions, a matching corporate gift and an internal fundraising challenge.
Peter Toombs, the company’s president, said Diversified Metal Engineering has always put a strong emphasis on giving back to the community and wanted to make sure it was an important part of its 25th anniversary.
“We feel very fortunate to have built this business on Prince Edward Island,” Toombs said.
Toombs recently presented the final installment to the QEH Foundation, which will put the money toward buying medical equipment for the hospital.
QEH Foundation board member Steve Dunne said the hospital needs about $6.8 million in equipment this year and support like that from Diversified Metal Engineering will help many Islanders receive quality care in P.E.I.
“We are so grateful to all the staff and management of DME who had a part in making this incredible gift a reality,” he said.
