The building that has long housed the Charlottetown Legion may soon have new owners.
Gilles Pageau, president of the P.E.I. Command, told The Guardian today that a number of businessmen are looking to purchase the large three-storey building on Pownal Street.
“There is a pending sale…we have somebody that is interested,’’ said Pageau.
Pageau did not want to disclose any specific details on the pending sale, other than noting that the potential buyers were looking to allow the Legion to lease or rent a portion of the building.
“We have to respect the people that we are talking with,’’ he said.
“Nothing has been signed.’’

The building, which has received hundreds of thousands of dollars in renovations over the past few years, was put up for sale in April. The asking price was in the $900,000 range.
Provincial Command-appointed trustees have been in control of the Charlottetown branch for several months trying to address the financially struggling operation.
There have been no plans to close the branch, which has about 500 members.
Pageau said a deal that would see the Legion sell the building but able to remain as a tenant is a favourable scenario.
“We’re hoping that this is going to work out,’’ he said.
