Park West Lodge on Richmond Street in Charlottetown is currently under the care of a court-appointed receiver, PricewaterhouseCoopers. A spokesman with the received told The Guardian it’s business as usual and that there will be no staffing changes. PricewaterhouseCoopers will be accepting bids on the nursing home until 5 p.m. on July 29.

It’s business as usual for a nursing home in downtown Charlottetown after having a receiver appointed to manage the facility.

Park West Lodge, a 42-bed community care and nursing care home on Richmond Street which was owned by Sherwood Holdings Ltd., had PricewaterhouseCoopers Inc. appointed as its receiver and manager.

It follows the death in 2014 of Richard McGuigan, who was the main shareholder.

David Boyd, senior vice-president of PricewaterhouseCoopers, said the company tried to sell the home but to no avail.

“Operations of the company were effectively then left to the family, who then sought to go to market to sell the facility and were unsuccessful,’’ Boyd said Thursday.

Montrose Mortgage Company Ltd. then secured the services of PricewaterhouseCoopers. Boyd says it’s business as usual.

“The goal here is to ensure that the business operates on a normal course and fashion; that the residents continue to get the services they would normally receive.’’

Boyd said the current management team at Park West Lodge remains in place, and the goal will be to sell the nursing home to an accredited nursing home provider.

Offers will be entertained until 5 p.m. on July 29, but Boyd said it will take time before a new owner is in place. The court will be involved, and the new owner will have to meet the Department of Health guidelines with regards to operating a nursing home.

“We’re working with the Department of Health to ensure that all guidelines are being met, and any issues that may arise we’re dealing with on a proactive basis.’’

Meetings with management and employees at the lodge were held in April to address any concerns.

“The key was making sure that residents felt comfortable in the environment (and) the employees were comfortable in the environment. The reality is it’s just a financial transaction to find a new purchaser for the facility,’’ Boyd said.
