Bells of St. Dunstan’s ring out across Charlottetown

Over 1,000 people gathered around to hear the revived bells ring out from the tower of St. Dunstan’s Basilica church in Charlottetown today.

Guest speakers praised the work of volunteers that worked so hard to bring about the return of bells to the cathedral church.

After the guest comments from the premier, Bishop Grecco, Charlottetown MP Sean Casey and Premier Wade MacLauchlan, there was a blessing of the bells and sprinkling Holy Water on the bell tower.

Then the bells sounded an original composition by organist Leo Marchildon, followed by a rendition of Oh Canada on the bells.

Tears and hugs were in evidence from many in the crowd.

Some of the large crowd that turned out for the ceremony to mark the restoration and return of real brass bells to St. Dunstan’s Basilica in Charlottetown on July 1, 2017.
