As 2017 draws to a close, The Guardian took a look at the most popular baby names across the Island this year.
The top name for baby boys was Liam, while Ava took the tops spot for baby girls.
Names of the Royal Family were popular this year on P.E.I., as William and Henry both made the list, tying for number two.
Emma and Elizabeth tied for the second spot among the girls’ names.
There seemed to be a trend with girls names ending in vowels, particularly “a”, as Ella, Sophia, Isla, Amelia and Lydia also made the list. And for boys, names like Jackson, Hudson and Grayson made the cut.
Charlottetown residents Cassandra and Colin McNaughton’s baby, William, was born this summer.
He was not, however, named after the Royals.
William Joseph McNaughton, born in Charlottetown on Aug. 17, was named after Colin’s great grandfather and Cassandra’s grandfather, respectively.
Joseph, as it were, also made the list of popular boys names.
Cassandra said she will never forget the day she got to finally meet her baby.
“The first time I saw him, my mind just went blank and I stared at him,” she told The Guardian. “I couldn’t believe that he was ours. I still sometimes can’t believe it.”
Things are quite different now that their family of two became three.
“Our lives have completely changed with him being here, but for the better. We are never bored now.”
