CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. - A woman who describes herself as an advocate for small business and arts in culture in Charlottetown wants to take her skillset to city hall.

Alanna Jankov announced Friday her intention to seek election for council in the city’s Ward 1 in the upcoming municipal election.

Jankov is a longtime resident of Charlottetown and executive director of The Guild, a role she has held for the past six years. She has received several awards, including the Distinguished Alumni Award from Holland College, the Cultural Industry Award from the City of Charlottetown, and the President’s Excellence Award from Downtown Charlottetown Inc.

“I am so lucky to call Charlottetown my home,” Jankov said. “The vibrancy and diversity in a city that still has that ‘small town feel’ is part of why I want to represent downtown residents on council. Charlottetown has the capability to become the arts and culture hub of Atlantic Canada. It’s also a fantastic place to do business. I want to be part of local governance, so I can work to continue fostering this diversified success in the Birthplace of Confederation.”

Jankov sits on the Women’s Network of P.E.I., the P.E.I. Family Violence Prevention Service, Music P.E.I. and CARFAC (Canadian Artists Representation).

An avid runner and yoga enthusiast, Jankov, the mother of two adult children, lives in a century home with her fiancé, Steven McLean, and their two dogs.
