A new telephone program offers free information, fun and friendship over the phone to Islanders of all ages.

The “P.E.I. Party Line” will host 45-minute calls on various topics with a featured guest speaker.

The program started Friday with folklore researcher Dutch Thompson and continues in the coming weeks with information such as what the P.E.I. Party Line is all about, Alzheimer's Disease awareness, and overcoming sleep issues.

“The Party Line is a convenient way for all Islanders – especially our seniors – to get information, learn new things, and stay connected to others no matter where they may be,” Family and Human Services Minister Tina Mundy said. “Islanders are already well connected and always willing to help each other and this new service will be a great way to share information that will help to further bring us together.”

The service is free but users must pre-register for each session, where they will be given a program code to join the call.

Calls will be led by a moderator and scheduled for Wednesdays and Fridays.

“Many Islanders and organizations told us that a telephone-based program would help people overcome some of the challenges to accessing information and staying connected such as winter weather, transportation, health, and caregiving,” Seniors' Secretariat chairman Paul H. Schurman said.

“We encourage all Islanders to join the calls to hear an interesting presentation, ask questions, and meet new people.”
