The victim of a fatal vehicle rollover on Friday has been identified as 86-year-old John Gerald Campbell of Newport.

Funeral arrangements have also been finalized for Campbell, who died when a truck he was driving rolled over after leaving the road on Route 311 in Cardigan North.

On Sunday, an RCMP spokesperson said the rollover is still under police investigation.

“We’re still waiting on some results,” said the spokesperson, who added that a further police update will likely be provided mid-week.

Kings District RCMP said the road was partially snow covered when they received the report of a single-vehicle rollover at approximately 11:30 a.m.

Alcohol and excessive speed are not believed to be factors in the collision, and the RCMP investigation will also include a mechanical inspection of the truck.

Police said the truck was travelling north when it crossed the centre line, left the road and rolled over before coming to a rest on its side.

Another motorist had also stopped to help Campbell out of his seatbelt, however, police said he died before paramedics arrived.
