Fatal collision on Route 311

An 86-year-old man from DeGros Marsh died this morning when the truck he was driving rolled over after leaving the road near Cardigan.

Kings District RCMP reported that around 11:30 a.m. they received a report of a single-vehicle rollover on Route 311 in Cardigan North.

A truck travelling north crossed the centre line, left the road and rolled over before coming to a rest on its side.

Another motorist helped the driver out of his seatbelt, but the man died before paramedics arrived.

The RCMP said it was snowing at the time and the road was partially snow covered.

Alcohol and excessive speed are not believed to be factors in the collision.

An investigation into the accident is continuing and will include a mechanical inspection of the truck.
