Detective Sergeant Brad MacConnell of major crime unit, will now head administration, support services

Detective Sergeant Brad MacConnell, centre, head of the major crime unit of Charlottetown Police Services accepts his promotion to deputy police chief of administration and support services.

Making the announcement Monday at the monthly meeting of city council are Mayor Clifford Lee, left, and Jason Coady, chair of the city's safety services committee.

MacConnell takes on his new role Feb. 16 after the position became vacant with the retirement of Richard Collins in early 2015.

MacConnell joins Gary McGuigan, deputy police chief of operations as top officers  under Police Chief Paul Smith.

MacConnell will look after such duties as staffing, scheduling, budgeting and planning.
