Work is now underway to transform the Charlottetown Event Grounds into a winter wonderland.

The Hotel Association of Prince Edward Island says construction is now underway for the Jack Frost Children's WinterFest, which will take place in Charlottetown, Feb. 19-21.

That work involves making snow, yes even when there is snow on the ground, and ice.

After running the festival the past two years, Confederation Bridge decided to pull out this year, in terms of management and sponsorship dollars.

So, the Hotel Association of P.E.I. jumped in to save it, with help from the City of Charlottetown’s Special Events Reserve Fund (SERF) and Versatile Management Group, an expert in managing events.

Craig Jones, president of the hotel association, said they anticipate $602,000 in direct spending, a 20 per cent increase in room nights sold and about a 30 per cent increase in visitation from off Island.
