A P.E.I. man who is awaiting trial in connection with an assault that sent another man to hospital with life-threatening injuries is facing further charges in an unrelated case.
Jeremy Joseph Cummiskey made a brief appearance before Judge John Douglas Wednesday in provincial court in Charlottetown where he pleaded not guilty to theft and a probation breach.
Sheriffs brought Cummiskey into the courtroom since he is in custody while he awaits trial on the assault charge.
Cummiskey and Michael Robert Bryenton allegedly assaulted Trevor Acorn at his apartment on Euston Street in Charlottetown.
Acorn was rushed to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital and later transferred to Halifax.
Cummiskey’s trial in that case is scheduled to start March 1.
He will also return to court March 9 for a trial on the theft and probation breach charge
