Environment Canada issues winter storm warning for P.E.I.

The first winter storm of the new year is heading for P.E.I.

Environment Canada has issued a winter storm warning for tomorrow as a low-pressure system moves across the Bay of Fundy into the Gulf of St. Lawrence.

Snow is expected to start overnight and intensify tomorrow morning before changing to rain or a mix of snow and rain later in the afternoon.

A total of 15 to 20 centimetres of snow is expected with the highest amounts falling in eastern P.E.I.

Easterly winds with gusts of up to 90 km/h combined with heavy snow will lead to whiteout conditions and low visibility.

The winds will change direction to the southwest tomorrow afternoon.
