The quick dash into the water ended with an even quicker dash out

The annual polar bear swim in Charlottetown

Published on January 1, 2016

The swimmers ran into the frigid waters of Charlottetown harbour fast, but ran out even faster during the annual polar bear swim New Years Day.

Several hundred swimmers and even more spectators gathered on the beach adjacent to the Charlottetown Yacht Club for the winter spectacle. Unike past years there was no ice to chop so swimmers could enter the water and it was not a really cold morning, but that is not to say it was not easy to take the plunge.

Donations of food and money were accepted for the Upper Room Food Bank and last year $1,700 was raised.

The temperature was minus 3 C with a  windchill of minus 9 C and winds gusting to 36 km/h.
