Power had been knocked out to Bonshaw, Brackley, Milton and West Royalty areas

The power is back on after three zones around the perimeter of Charlottetown went suddenly dark around the supper hour Monday.

Power wet out for about 7,300 customers about 5:30 p.m. as far as Bonshaw, plus areas around Meadowbank the Brackley zone and parts of Stratford.

Maritime Electric reported a problem with a piece of equipment in the Sherwood Road area caused the outage.

While crews were there they found two other pieces of equipment that had to be replaced.

Some residents called 911 reporting a big flash around the Lower Mapleque and Sherwood Roads just before 5:30 p.m.

That is the location for a major distribution station for Maritime Electric.

A wire was also reported down on the Sherwood Road near Mount Edward Road.

By 7 p.m. power had been restored to the Milton, and then Brackley areas, said Griffin.

At 8:30 Maritime Electric said "We still have approximately 2,100 customers out. We think crews have found the problem and are working now to fix it."

9:40 p.m. - Power was restored to all but 140 customers.
