FOXLEY RIVER — A Mount Pleasant man is being treated in a Halifax hospital for burns sustained Tuesday in a farming accident in Foxley River.

Billy Williams said his father, Roger Williams, was helping his son-in-law. They were trying to start a grain combine and had primed the machine. He said he’s been told his father was outside the machine, standing near the engine, when it backfired, catching him on fire.

The man, who turned 73 that day, was transported  to Prince County Hospital in Summerside and subsequently moved to Halifax.

A small swath of the grain field, about 30 feet in length, also caught on fire, but farm workers had it out before O’Leary volunteer fire department arrived on scene.
