Heavy rain a welcome relief, but not enough to help the farmers

For most of the summer, Islanders and tourists, but especially farmers and gardeners have been gasping for rain but to no avail.

Then on Wednesday evening the heavens seemed to open and it poured rain - not enough to really help the farmers, but any little bit is good. Some motorists seemed to enjoy the rain as they powered through the water collected on Edward and Grafton Streets.

People walking downtown or sitting at outdoor patios made a mad dash for cover - some made it and some got a real soaking.

The downpour lasted less than 30 minutes and then the late evening sun began to break through the clouds and everything retrned to normal. Environment Canada says there is a chance of showers Friday and Saturday, but real rain until at least the middle of next week.
