Summerside man jailed, fined on two charges

SUMMERSIDE — A 26-year-old city man was jailed and fined in Summerside provincial court recently on charges of impaired driving and possession of drugs.

Richard Patrick Beairsto was stopped on Elm Street in Summerside, on June 22 after police received a complaint of an impaired driver.

A breathalyzer demand was made and Beairsto recorded readings of 180 and 170. During a search, police discovered a plastic bag containing 3.7 grams of cannabis marijuana in Beairsto’s pocket.

Judge Jeff Lantz sentenced Beairsto to five days in jail on the impaired driving charge, fined him $1,300 and ordered him to pay a victim fine surcharge of $390.

Beairsto also lost his driving privileges for 12 months.

On the possession charge, Lantz fined him $300 and a victim fine surcharge of $60.
