The Canadian Food Inspection Agency has issued a recall notice for a brand of coleslaw sold in P.E.I. because of possible listeria contamination.

The recall covers Belleisle Farms Garden Fresh Cole Slaw in 227 gram bags with a best before date of Aug. 19 and UPC code 0 33383 65260 3.

Bags of the recalled coleslaw were also sold in New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador and Nova Scotia.

An advisory from the Canadian Food Inspection Agency said the recall was triggered by test results and a food safety investigation, which could lead to the recall of further products.

Exposure to listeria can cause several symptoms, including vomiting, nausea, cramps, diarrhea, headaches, constipation and persistent fever.
