The five o'clock rush hour traffic on the Hillsborough Bridge was snarled when someone jumped from the bridge into the river and to make matters worse there were three "fender benders" when people slowed down to watch the action.

RCMP Sgt. Leanne Butler said the person was rescued and taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

The call came in around 5 p.m. and Charlottetown Police Services, RCMP and EMS rushed to the scene while rescue boats took to the water. It was not long before the jumper was hauled aboard a boat and taken to the Charlottetown Seaport wharf and a waiting ambulance.

Police have not released the gender of the jumper or their condition, but Butler said the RCMP will be issuing a news release later tonight with further details.
