UPDATE: Two men escape van before it catches fire in Springvale accident

Van was west bound on Highway 2 when driver lost control of the vehicle, it rolled, then caught fire

Two people narrowly escaped serious injuries Tuesday when the panel van they were traveling in left the road, rolled and caught fire in Springvale.

A spokesman for the RCMP said the van was west bound on Highway 2 when the driver lost control of the vehicle.

“As a resultthe vehiclerolled and then caught fire,” police said.

The two occupants were able to pull themselves to safety before the vehicle became engulfed in flames. They were transported to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital with what appeared to be minor injuries.

The accident occurred near the Silver Bells Christmas tree farm on Route 2 about 11 a.m.

Motorists travelling on Route 2 were diverted to the Loyalist Road while crews cleaned up the scene.

The RCMP were assisted at the scene by the North River Fire Department and Island EMS.

The investigation into that accident continues.
