Scales of justice
A 58-year-old youth worker charged with sexual exploitation and trafficking in a controlled substance entered guilty pleas Friday in P.E.I. Supreme Court to multiple charges.
Arthur Francis McGuigan pleaded guilty to two charges of sexual exploitation.
Those charges relate to two separate incidents, one in Charlottetown, the other in Tracadie.
He pleaded guilty as well to a charge of luring a person under the age of 18 for the purposes of facilitating the offence of child pornography.
McGuigan also pleaded guilty to trafficking in methamphetamine.
The Crown stayed charges of accessing child pornography and possession of child pornography.
McGuigan was a youth worker at Bluefield High School until his arrest.
An agreed statement of facts has been prepared for the court.
The Crown, the defence and the accused have all signed that statement but it was not read into the court record.
Justice Gordon Campbell has ordered the preparation of a pre-sentence report on the accused and adjourned the matter to Oct. 6 for sentence.
The charges relating to the luring of a child and sexual exploitation both carry mandatory minimum jail sentences.
A publication ban imposed by the courts prohibits the publication or broadcast of any details which would lead to the identification of the victims.
