CORNWALL — There will be a race for the mayor’s office in Cornwall.

Marlene Hunt, a councillor in the town for the last two terms, announced on Wednesday she will be runing for mayor during the November 2014 municipal elections.

“It is an honour to serve the people of Cornwall and I look forward to meeting everyone during the campaign,” said Hunt.

The annoucement comes one day after Corey Frizzell, another Cornwall councillor, announced his intention to seek the mayor’s office. Frizzell will outline his plans during a campaign launch Thursday evening at Cornwall Town Hall.

Hunt said her platform includes support for public transit, which she describes as “sustainable and needed in a growing town.”

Improved transparency, fiscal responsibility, and more environmental initiatives are essential to the town’s future and Hunt said those too will be part of her campaign pitch to Cornwall residents.

“We need more sidewalk infrastructure, trails, bike lanes, park improvements and equally important a public transit system connected to our sister cities and towns.”
