TIGNISH — The 34th annual Tignish Irish Moss Festival gets underway today at Credit Union Arena. Official opening ceremonies at 7 p.m., followed by the street wear portion of the Irish Moss pageant.
There are nine contestants vying for Miss Irish Moss, which will be presented on Sunday.
The festival concludes Tuesday, Canada Day.
Also on Thursday’s agenda is trivia at Gunners Pub at 8 p.m.
Ladies Night at Gunners Pub highlights Friday’s schedule. There’s also a road hockey tournament, seniors chocolate bar bingo, a Video Star challenge and a Friday fun flick.
Saturday’s schedule gets underway with a community-wide yard sale.
Tignish will present its own Run Wild in Colour event Saturday at 10 p.m. Participants in the five-kilometer fun run will be generously sprinkled with powdered colours along the way.
A character show at the arena and a beach volleyball tournament at Skinners Pond fills out the afternoon. There’s an adult dance Saturday night at Credit Union Arena with 3 a.m. and special guest Julie Arsenault.
The annual parade goes Sunday at 1 p.m. followed by an afternoon of activities, including a Heritage car show on the school grounds, youth talent show at the arena, bubble soccer and euro bungee on the arena grounds, horse pull competition behind Bi-centennial Park, 50-50 bingo at the legion, lawn tractor races and lobster suppers.
The pageant finale is set for 7 p.m. at the arena, followed by fireworks off Judes Point.
Monday’s schedule includes a parent child golf tournament at St. Felix and a soccer jamboree on the school grounds.
A co-ed ball tournament and Canada Day celebrations complete the program.
