Rain causes short delay in arrival of Governor General to Charlottetown

Published on June 15, 2014

The rain continued to play havoc with Charlottetown’s 1864 Week celebrations Sunday when the plane carrying Governor General David Johnston could not land at the city airport due to rain, fog and low clouds and that meant he was unable to attend a special church service in St. Dunstans Basilica.

However, his plane did manage to land later in the morning and the Governor General will attend a guest book signing in Province House beginning at 11:30 a.m.

The rain did not stop the service parade from city hall to St. Dunstans Basilica for a church service.

Here is a list of other events that have been cancelled or postponed due to the weather.

-  The Official Guest Book Signing on the steps of Province House today at 11:30 a.m. will take place inside of Province House.

  -  Family Day events at Victoria Park today from 12:30 - 6 p.m. are cancelled. This does not include the concerts in the park series, the sail past by the Charlottetown Yacht Club or the official ceremony at 1:45 p.m. which are all events that will go ahead rain or shine at Victoria Park today.

 -   The fireworks scheduled for tonight at 10 p.m. at Victoria Park have been cancelled.

Everything else not listed above that is part of Charlottetown’s 1864 Anniversary Celebrations will continue as planned rain or shine.
