Funeral for Angèle Arsenault to be held in P.E.I.

ABRAM-VILLAGE — Islanders will have an opportunity to say their final goodbyes to acclaimed Acadian singer Angèle Arsenault at a funeral service in Prince Edward Island later this month.

Arsenault passed away in Quebec at the age of 70 in February.


A funeral service will be held for her at St-Philippe-et-St-Jacques church in Egmont Bay on May 24.

Arsenault was born in 1943 in Abrams Village, the eighth of 14 children.

She rose to fame as a French singer after moving to Quebec, recording albums that sold hundreds of thousands of copies and earned her numerous awards and accolades.

She was an officer of the Order of Canada as well as belonging to the Order of Prince Edward Island.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be given to the youth organization Village des sources l’Étoile Filante.

A gathering of the family and relatives will be held on the evening of May 24 at the Centre Expo-Festival in Abram-Village.
