RCMP target car in Souris looking for drugs

A take-down of a car on a street in Souris Thursday netted 340 grams of marijuana.

"Members of the Kings District Street Level Drug Unit conducted a  stop on a small black car in Souris, PEI.," said a statement from the force issued Friday. "Officers suspected occupants of the car were transporting drugs to the Souris area for resale.

"Two men from Souris were arrested and a search of the car resulted in the seizure of approximately 3/4 of a pound (340 grams) of marihuana," said the statement. "The drugs were packaged for resale.

"A 30-year-old man from Church Avenue and 23-year-old man from Main Street,  Souris are facing a number of charges related to the trafficking of drugs and will appear in court at a later date," said the RCMP.

"Drug activity often involves violence that puts innocent citizens of Prince Edward Island at risk," said S/Sgt Dave Thibeau, Kings District Commander.

"The Kings District Street Level Drug Unit investigates complaints and targets people involved in the purchase and sale of drugs within the area," he said.
