SUMMERSIDE – The City of Summerside will honour two-time Olympian Heather Moyse by re-naming one of the city’s major streets in her honour.

Summerside Mayor Basil Stewart said Harbour Drive will be re-named Heather Moyse Drive during a special ceremony set for Canada Day.

“Being a Canadian Olympic gold medalist, we thought we’d make it part of the Canada Day ceremonies,” Stewart said. “”She’s going to be available round noon on July 1. So, it’s going to be part of that ceremony.”

Stewart said the business on Harbour Drive have been notified of the pending name change.

“They are quite pleased about it,” he said. “We wanted to make sure the businesses along there had time to get their letterhead changed.”

The idea of naming a street after Moyse was announced the night of her reception at Credit Union Place following her back-to-back gold medal wins at the Olympic Games.
