SUMMERSIDE – A Summerside doctor has been handed a reprimand by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Prince Edward Island.

In a press release posted on its website Wednesday, the college stated that Dr. Douglas Carmody, an internist at the Summerside Medical Centre, had been reprimanded by its fitness to practise committee.

It does not detail why Carmody was reprimanded, saying only that he “failed to meet the standard of care expected of a physician.”

The reprimand does not affect his ability to practise medicine in any way, but did require that he forward a letter of apology to the affected patient and pay a fine of $3,000.

The reprimand was issued Jan. 1, however, it was only posted online on March 5.

The College has told TC Media that no further information will be provided.

Attempts were also made to contact Carmody for comment, however, his office reported that he is travelling outside the province for the next several days and would be difficult to contact.
