CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. - An Island filmmaker is bringing his documentary about tuna to P.E.I. on March 25.
John Hopkins shot his award-winning film Bluefin in North Lake and explores why there is a sudden abundance of tuna off the shores of eastern P.E.I. despite scientific assessments that stocks are depleted.
The film was awarded prizes at the 2017 Santa Barbara International Film Festival, the 2017 International Ocean Film Festival and the 2016 Lunenburg DocFest.
Hopkins said that through his documentary he hopes to shed light on bluefin tuna and people’s relationship with them so productive harmony can be restored between people and all life in the oceans.
UPEI’s Environmental Society, Save Our Seas and Shores P.E.I., and Cinema Politica Charlottetown are hosting the screening at 2 p.m. in MacDougall Hall at UPEI.
Admission is by donation.
