CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. - Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for P.E.I. with strong winds and rain expected Friday night into Saturday.

The alert said an intense fall storm will cross central Quebec into Labrador Saturday.

That storm will bring rain and strong southerly winds to P.E.I. overnight Friday and into the morning.

Those winds are expected to stay below warning criteria, but Environment Canada said gusts could reach about 80 km/h.

Environment Canada is advising the public to monitor forecasts as warnings may be required.

SaltWire Network Meteorologist Cindy Day will have the latest on the storm online throughout the day on Friday at theguardian.pe.ca/weather.
