Driving while impaired not only cost a 45-yearold P.E.I. man his licence, it also cost him his job.
Raymond Paul Birks appeared in provincial court in Charlottetown recently for plea and sentencing.
On Oct. 22, police received a complaint of a possible impaired driver around 3 a.m.
Police conducted a traffic stop and observed Birks demonstrating signs of impairment.
Birks provided breath samples more than 1.5 times the legal limit.
He had no prior criminal record.
The court heard he was employed on a full-time basis, but after losing his licence he lost his employment. Birks received a $1,000 fine and a $300 victim surcharge and is prohibited from driving for 12 months.
